For individuals seeking to reduce stubborn body fat, the Vanquish™ procedure offered by Dr. Mariano Busso is safe, painless, and impressively effective. Dr. Busso’s results have been so successful that his procedure has become the standard treatment protocol worldwide. What makes Vanquish a particularly attractive fat reduction treatment is its effectiveness at reducing love handles and taking inches off thighs.
What is Vanquish?
Vanquish reduces body fat through the use of multipolar radio frequency technology. The bands of the Vanquish machine extend across the skin, though the machine never actually touches the body. This unique design allows for even distribution of radiofrequency energy which induces deep fat tissue heating. This in turn results in the reduction of fat in the targeted areas.
Vanquish is a completely painless, non-surgical, and non-invasive procedure. It involves four sessions, each 75 minutes long. The machine doesn’t even physically touch your body. No needles, scalpels, anesthesia, or medications are involved. But it works.
Vanquish Gets Rid of Love Handles
Trying to lose fat around the abdomen – “love handles” – can be the most frustrating aspect of weight loss. Sometimes, a healthy diet and exercise – crucial to any weight loss regimen – seems to have little effect on love handles. Vanquish is a fantastic adjunct that can supplement your other efforts and finally reduce your waistline.
All of Dr. Busso’s patients have seen at least a 2-inch reduction around the abdomen after Vanquish treatment. In fact, most of our patients lose 3-6 inches around the waist. Typically, our patients see a 2-inch reduction after the first treatment and further reduction during the 3 months leading up to the fourth Vanquish treatment.
Vanquish Can Take Inches Off of Your Thighs
Not only does Vanquish work on love handles, but Dr. Busso has also been using Vanquish to effectively reduce the circumference of thighs. Patients typically will see 1 ½-inch decreases per thigh after Vanquish treatment, though individual results may vary.

More than 1.37 million liposuction procedures were performed globally in 2014 alone, making it the second most common cosmetic procedure behind eyelid surgery. Despite the status quo, patients across the globe are searching for non-surgical options to target stubborn fat at increasing rates. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery says 10.9 million non-surgical procedures were performed in 2015 compared to just 1.9 million surgical procedures, demonstrating how non-invasive techniques are shifting demand within the cosmetic and aesthetic industries.
Given the increasing popularity of non-invasive procedures – including body contouring for fat reduction – the November 2016 issue of the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology looked closer into three highly popular hands-free body contouring devices available. Researchers Suneel Chilukuri, MD FAAD FASDS and Gregory Mueller, MD FACS reviewed the technology and case studies behind body contouring devices. All non-invasive body contouring mechanisms rely on advanced technologies, including laser light, radiofrequency, acoustic and shock waves or cold, to shrink fat cells, thereby triggering apoptosis or necrosis.
Three of the most popular devices currently on the market include Vanquish™ (selective focused-field radiofrequency), the Coolsculpting System (cryolipolysis) and SculpSure (diode laser energy). Although each of these machines allow for a “hands-free” application, Vanquish™ is the only device that does not require direct contact with the skin.
Coolsculpting is intended to reduce fat on the abdomen, lumbar, hips, inner thighs, knees, saddlebags, arms and ankles. The applicator is applied to the treatment area and vacuums tissue between two cooling panels for 30 to 60 minutes. This process is also referred to as cryolipolysis, which selectively targets fatty tissue without harming the dermis. However, the specifics related to how the machine differentiates the tissues is not fully understood. Based on recent studies, patients with small fat deposits in the flanks or abdomen saw reductions between 14 and 25.5 percent. Side effects include erythema and sensory changes that resolve shortly after treatment. Chilukuri and Mueller state that CoolSculpting is best used on small areas to maximize accuracy and speed.
Using radiofrequency, the Vanquish™ device can heat subcutaneous fatty tissue to minimize unwanted inches. Because subcutaneous adipose tissue has lower water content than the skin, Vanquish™ does not overheat or damage the skin. Two types of applicators are used: the EX for the mid-section and the AB for the thighs and saddlebags. In a case series of 40 patients who underwent 30 minutes of treatment over a 4-week period, Fajkosova et al found the 35 patients who completed the study saw an average reduction of 4.93 cm in the abdominal region. These patients also noted high satisfaction with the treatment and results. No adverse side effects, besides transient erythema and mild tenderness that resolved shortly after treatment, were reported. The researchers concluded that Vanquish™ is the preferred body sculpting device for larger areas in patients with a higher body mass index (BMI). The device allows for easy abdomen and flank coverage, and is in close competition with traditional liposuction. The process is three to five times faster than competitors Coolsculpting and SculpSure.
The SculpSure device uses diode laser energy to target fat in the abdominal and flank regions. To prevent overheating, two flat non-suction cooling applicators are used to generate heat in the adipose tissue layer without damaging the skin. A study of 76 patients who underwent SculpSure on either the abdomen or the flank with an average reduction of 3.1 +/- 1.7 mm and 2.6 mm, respectively. Eighty-five percent of patients within the abdomen group and 86 percent within the flank group were extremely satisfied or satisfied with the results. The researchers noted that while visible reduction was found, SculpSure does not help with circumferential reduction.
Keep in mind, the studies listed above did not account for lifestyle and weight fluctuations within the subjects. Despite this limitation, Vanquish™ was the only device to demonstrate results for both fat layer thinning and circumferential reduction.

Suffering with stubborn fat cells that don’t seem to go away, regardless of how much time you spend at the gym? Fat is stubborn – and you’re not alone in your struggle to eliminate that unwanted pooch. The truth is, you cannot target and minimize fat through exercise. When you lose weight, you’re undergoing a total body effort. While you can sculpt certain areas through toning and weight training exercises, residual fat can still gather around the tummy, hips and thighs.
Fortunately, patients suffering with unwanted fat despite their best efforts can turn to VANQUISH M.E.™, the non-invasive fat minimizing treatment that targets tissue without needles or knives. VANQUISH™ is touch-free, making it a viable option for patients with sensitive skin.
Best of all? There’s no pain involved.
How Does VANQUISH M.E.™ Work?
Of all fat reduction devices, VANQUISH M.E.™ covers the largest surfaces and is suitable to target fat on virtually any area of the body. As a body sculpting tool, it allows for surgical-like results without pain and recovery time. Our state-of-the-art machine targets multiple sites at once, reducing inconsistencies and/or errors. In one study, all 25 patients benefitted from clear results after just one treatment. In four sessions, patients saw a 59 percent of abdominal fat reduction. Some of our patients have lost as much as 6 inches or more from their waistlines after four sessions. *
Unlike CoolSculpting, another popular fat reduction technique, VANQUISH™ is painless both during and after the procedure. No down time allows you to return to your daily activities and responsibilities right away.
We understand – you’re probably wondering how this innovative technology works. VANQUISH™ transmits heat from the device through multipolar radio waves. Those waves are absorbed through the skin where they can effectively target stubborn fat cells. Over time, your body works to break these cells down on site while you continue living a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.

There is a lot of buzz on the Internet regarding a range of new fat loss treatments referred to as “non-surgical lipo (liposuction).” Many patients ask, How can liposuction be performed without surgery? Is it safe? How long until I see results?
This article was created to help patients better understand liposuction, body contouring, and which non-surgical fat reduction treatments are the safest and most effective.
Welcome to the second edition of Dr. Busso’s cosmetic dermatology newsletter. Dr. Busso and his staff have been producing wonderful results here in our Coconut Grove office with new state-of-the-art cosmetic technologies.
Our VANQUISH M.E.™ Machine proves itself every day. Patients routinely lose 2–3 inches of belly fat, and we see results in excess of 6 inches*. Treatment is painless and 100% non-invasive.
Our new ThermiRF™ machine uses radiofrequency energy to tighten loose skin by promoting regeneration of your body’s natural collagen. ThermiSmooth™ tightens skin around the eyes and smooths lip lines.
And laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation are only part of what our new Ellipse Laser does.
Dr. Busso’s VANQUISH M.E.™patients are losing inches. VANQUISH M.E.™ fat reduction requires four painless hour-and-fifteen-minute treatment sessions. Fat loss continues for months after the last treatment as the body continues to break down fat cells—which means the results below are preliminary; these patients can expect to see ongoing fat reduction.
Our VANQUISH M.E.™ machine has been in operation since August of 2014, so a number of patients have completed treatment. The results shared here are based on the first 29 patient outcomes produced here in our Coconut Grove office. No patients have been omitted or specifically chosen for inclusion in the results.
A variety of new non-surgical cosmetic procedures produce results previously possible only with surgery. Patients are embracing high-tech alternatives to facelifts, neck lifts, liposuction, and other invasive procedures.
“My practice is based on minimally invasive, non-surgical cosmetic treatments,” says Miami cosmetic dermatologist Mariano Busso. “For over two decades, we have been the local leader as far as introducing new technologies and procedures, but patients trust us not to jump the gun. It is critically important to adopt only technologies that have been proven safe and effective. As a researcher, I evaluate clinical trials, study results, evaluate the claims of medical technology developers, attend training, and make sure the science is sound.”
I am excited about a few new procedures I introduced into my practice toward the end of 2014; I will be unveiling a few more in the beginning of 2015. Continue reading →
