Without your nose, you wouldn’t be able to smell or taste and breathe as easily. So why do so many individuals despite their nose more than any other facial feature? Considering its prime placement in the center of the face, the nose dictates your appearance and the balance of your façade quite a bit. Thus, any imperfections stand out like a sore thumb. From the side, bumps or twists weaken an otherwise shapely silhouette or strong profile.
If you aren’t ready for a costly and painful nose job, but loathe your nose’s dissymmetry or figure, consider the following non-surgical nose job alternatives:
Non-Surgical Nose Job with Fillers
Until recently, the most popular option to alter the shape of your nose was through rhinoplasty – sometimes for cosmetic enhancement; other times to correct structural defects, deviated septum, past trauma or breathing problems. Rhinoplasty typically involves anesthesia or local sedation, incisions, bone removal, cartilage removal, grafts, straightening, stitches, bruising and painful recovery time to boot. With modern-era technology and techniques, cosmetic dermatologists can transform the appearance of the face without surgery via a non-surgical nose job. Say you dislike the protrusion or “hook” of your nose, but aren’t financially or emotionally prepared for a serious invasive cosmetic surgery. Fortunately, Dr. Busso contours the nose to enhance its shape and hide imperfections with dermal fillers. Fillers help smooth out the bridge of the nose to create an aesthetically-pleasing profile while concealing past fractures or a large tip. The process is relatively painless and does not require extensive recovery time, but offers up to two years of lasting results.
Contour and Highlight with Makeup
While this option only lasts until you wash your face at night, highlighting and contouring your nose with concealer, foundation or eyeshadow briefly mimics the appearance of a thinner nose. Follow these application steps to “fake” a nose job:
With a small angled brush, draw two straight lines down the sides of the bridge with bronzer, dark shadow or concealer two shades darker than your natural color.
Then, connect the two lines in a V-shape just underneath the tip of your nose.
Use a highlighter to fill in the sides of your nose and the flat surface between the two contour lines.
With a makeup sponge or brush, blend the harsh lines to create a shadow effect without smearing the contour.
Focus on pushing the makeup into your face, rather than spreading it around.
Finally, set your masterpiece with a loose translucent powder to keep creasing and oil at bay.
Limit Your Alcohol Intake
Long-term alcohol abuse is horrible for your internal system, but can also devastate your appearance. Rhinophyma, while rare, is a skin disorder classified by a large, red or bumpy nose. Rhinophyma is linked to rosacea, a chronic inflammatory skin condition, and until recently was widely associated with alcoholism in older patients. Current research says alcohol consumption does not directly cause rhinophyma¹, but over-consuming substances like alcohol and caffeine activates vasodilation – which worsens rhinophyma symptoms. Considering alcohol also triggers rosacea symptoms, cutting back on the booze is best for your skin’s health if you’re one of the 16 million Americans suffering from chronic skin redness and irritation.
As an esteemed and often-consulted dermal filler expert, Dr. Busso uses non-invasive, safe injectable gels such as Juvéderm to restructure the nose to your liking. Because they last up to two years, non-surgical nose jobs are the only alternative to rhinoplasty that offer prolonged, painless results. To schedule your non-surgical nose job appointment and put your best face forward for the New Year, call Dr. Busso’s office at 305-857-0144 today.
