One of the most effective and least invasive services we provide at our Miami aesthetic dermatology clinic is dermal filler injections. These safe and tested products work by plumping facial features to counteract volume loss that is a natural part of aging and a primary cause of wrinkles.
What is Restylane?
There are many types of dermal fillers we use, but one of the most popular is Restylane. Restylane is an FDA-approved dermal filler made with hyaluronic acid that restores volume to the skin, lifting and smoothing wrinkles and other fine lines. This procedure is commonly used to treat the glabellar lines between the forehead and the nasolabial folds. It can also be used to add volume and shape to the lips. We also use Restylane dermal filler in procedures such as Facial Contouring, Cheek Augmentation, Neck Rejuvenation, Hand Rejuvenation, Ear Lobe Rejuvenation, Nose Recontouring, and Chest/Cleavage Rejuvenation.
Differences Between Restylane and Other Dermal Fillers
The active ingredient in Restylane is hyaluronic acid. This naturally existing sugar molecule is found in nearly every living organism. In the body, hyaluronic acid performs a number of important functions, like lubricating body joints, assisting with the transport of nutrients, and maintaining hydration within the skin.
Hyaluronic acid is also the active ingredient in Restylane’s primary competitor, Juvederm, which we also offer. But other fillers rely on different active ingredients. For example, Radiesse is an injectable form of calcium hydroxylapatite, which is a naturally-occurring mineral suspended in a water-based gel. Sculptra is an injectable form of poly-L-lactic acid.
What makes hyaluronic acid-based fillers like Restylane so attractive is that they are made out of a natural molecule already found in our skin, which maximizes compatibility and minimizes any chance of a negative reaction. This makes Restylane particularly popular with first-time patients.
Restylane is also extremely versatile and can be injected almost anywhere to add volume and shape, including nasiolabial lines, cheeks, lips, eyelids, eyebrows, forehead lines and nose.
Differences Between Restylane, Restylane Silk and Restylane Defyne
In addition to Restylane, we offer two other Restylane products – Restylane Silk and Restylane Defyne.
Restylane Silk is the first and only FDA-approved treatment designed to specifically treat lips and the lines around them. Restylane Silk is designed for precise lip shaping and for smoothing lines around the mouth to create a natural look. While Restylane Silk and Restylane share the same main ingredient, hyaluronic acid, Restylane Silk is made with hyaluronic acid particles that are smaller and smoother. This makes it ideal for giving smooth shape to the lips and surrounding areas.
Restylane Defyne is designed to smooth out deep laugh lines (nasolabial folds and marionette lines). Using proprietary XpresHAn Technology™, this innovative and FDA-approved gel allows for supreme elasticity and lasting support. The results are natural-looking, safe and tailored based on patient needs.
Studies show that Restylane Defyne offers a significant improvement to wrinkle severity for up to a year in most patients. The studies, relied upon by the FDA in approving the product, revealed that 77 percent of Restylane Defyne patients saw at least a one-grade improvement on the Wrinkle Severity Rating Scale (WSRS) after only six weeks.
