Hair removal is, by far, the most established and popular laser cosmetic treatment we provide at Dr. Mariano Busso’s Miami aesthetic dermatology clinic. The reason we perform so many laser hair removal treatments is simple: it offers our patients a customized, quick, convenient, safe, and permanent solution to unwanted hair without the risk of burns or hyper-pigmentation
We are proud to have on our staff licensed and board-certified laser specialist Lisa Gurvich. Lisa has been performing laser hair removal in Miami since 2005 and has earned a reputation for achieving exceptional results, including permanent hair removal for patients who have seen only temporary results from other treatments.
If you are considering laser hair removal, here are four tips to get you ready for your first session:
Know Why You’re Going
You are coming to our clinic to make your life better and easier. Laser hair removal can spare you from the frustration of continually battling hair growth where you don’t want it. The minutes you spend in treatment sessions will pale in comparison to the hours upon hours you will save by no longer needing to shave, epilate, or apply removal creams as often as you used to. After just a few treatments, shaving and epilating become infinitely easier since there are fewer strands to target.
Know How It Works
While laser hair removal has been around for a while, advances in technology have made treatment quicker and much more comfortable.
At Dr. Busso’s clinic, we use the Alma SOPRANO XL 810-nm diode laser system, the highest standard for laser hair removal technology. It offers permanent hair removal with minimal discomfort and thorough coverage of the target area. An on-board computer ensures that settings match your skin color and hair type, further enhancing safety.
Many people considering laser hair removal are reluctant to undergo treatment because they are afraid that it will be a painful experience. One of the benefits of the Alma SOPRANO XL laser system is that it is virtually pain-free compared to other laser hair removal methods.
Unlike other laser systems that beam light into individual follicles, the Alma Soprano XL uses pulses of infrared diode laser energy to gradually heat hair follicles in the subdermal layer of skin. This type of laser energy doesn’t burn the follicles as other systems do, and it is that burning that can cause the pin prick-like pain during different treatments.
Know What to Expect During Treatment
We start a laser hair removal session by shaving off the surface hair in the treatment area. We then apply a special cooling gel to the skin which allows us to gently glide the laser device over the target area more easily.
The length of each treatment session will depend on the size of the area to be treated and the quantity of hair we need to remove. Some sessions are as short as 20 minutes.
Know What To Expect In Results
The typical laser hair removal patient needs five to eight treatment sessions, spaced approximately four to six weeks apart. Multiple sessions are necessary because hair on the body grows in cycles, and while some follicles may be growing hair, other follicles may be in a resting phase.
After just three sessions, the average patient may see up to a 50 reduction in the amount of hair in the treatment area, with up to an 80 percent reduction after six to eight treatments. Some studies have shown that 77 percent of treated hair doesn’t grow back after a decade.
