How is Juvéderm Different Than Other Dermal Fillers?
Dermal filler injections are some of the most popular services Dr. Mariano Busso provides at his Miami aesthetic dermatology clinic. It is easy to understand why. Dermal fillers are minimally-invasive, safe, and extremely effective at counteracting volume loss that is a natural part of aging and a primary cause of wrinkles.
We offer many types of dermal fillers for our patients, all of which can help you look and feel younger, including Juvéderm. But what is Juvéderm and how is different than the other dermal fillers available at our clinic?
What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm is an FDA-approved dermal filler made with hyaluronic acid that restores volume to the skin, lifting and smoothing wrinkles and other fine lines. There are two types of Juvéderm fillers we offer that are used to resolve different issues: Juvéderm Voluma and Juvéderm Volbella.
Juvéderm Voluma is a safe, effective gel that restores volume to the skin and smooths away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is also the first FDA-approved dermal filler proven safe and effective for persons of color. Juvéderm gel has a smooth consistency, allowing for easy injections and instant, natural-looking results. No pre-testing is needed for this procedure, and it usually lasts 18-24 months.
This procedure is commonly used to treat the glabellar lines between the forehead and the nasolabial folds. We also use Juvéderm dermal filler in procedures such as Facial Contouring, Cheek Augmentation, Neck Rejuvenation, Hand Rejuvenation, Ear Lobe Rejuvenation, Nose Recontouring, and Chest/Cleavage Rejuvenation.
While Juvéderm Voluma is used to add volume to the skin, Juvéderm Volbella is designed specifically to enhance the volume of the lips. Dr. Busso was among the first cosmetic physicians to introduce Juvéderm Volbella to patients in the U.S. It contains lidocaine for more comfortable treatment, and the results last for up to a year.
It can help
- Diminish vertical lip lines
- Accentuate the border of your lips
- Make lips fuller, and enhance the of the “cupid’s bow” at the top of the upper lip
Differences Between Juvéderm and Other Dermal Fillers
The active ingredient in Juvéderm is hyaluronic acid. This naturally existing sugar molecule is found in nearly every living organism. In the body, hyaluronic acid performs a number of important functions, like lubricating body joints, assisting with the transport of nutrients, and maintaining hydration within the skin.
Many other fillers we offer rely on different active ingredients. For example, Radiesse is an injectable form of calcium hydroxylapatite, which is a naturally-occurring mineral suspended in a water-based gel. Sculptra is an injectable form of poly-L-lactic acid.
What makes hyaluronic acid-based fillers like Juvéderm so attractive is that they are made out of a natural molecule already found in our skin, which maximizes compatibility and minimizes any chance of a negative reaction. This makes Juvéderm particularly popular with first-time patients.
