At Dr. Mariano Busso’s Miami-Coconut Grove aesthetic dermatology clinic, we have been using safe, controlled, and precisely calibrated laser light for years to address a range of conditions. These include laser skin tightening, laser toenail fungus treatment, and laser skin rejuvenation procedures, for example. But the most popular and long-standing use of lasers in cosmetic treatment is hair removal.
Laser hair removal is a safe, effective, and permanent solution to unwanted hair. The short duration of the treatments will pale in comparison to the hours upon hours you will save throughout the rest of your life no longer needing to shave, epilate or apply removal creams as much as you used to. After a few treatments, shaving and epilating become easier since there are fewer strands to target.
Hair Removal Using The Ellipse Laser
While laser hair removal has been around for a while, advances in technology have made treatment faster and more comfortable. At our clinic, we prefer using the Ellipse Laser for hair removal, an innovative tool which provides the quickest application on the market.
The Ellipse system consumes less energy and targets more hairs than the Intense Pulsated Light (IPL) systems used at many commercial or spa hair removal facilities.
Because the laser has a larger surface, the treatment time is significantly reduced. The Ellipse Laser can be used for hair removal on the face, armpits, legs, bikini line, chest, and back.
Multiple Treatments But Minimal Discomfort
Many people considering laser hair removal may be reluctant to undergo treatment because they fear that it will be a painful experience. One of the benefits of the Ellipse Laser is that it is relatively pain-free compared to other laser hair removal treatments. Before the procedure, we apply a thin layer of gel (similar to ultrasound gel) to the treatment area which helps maximize the amount of light entering your skin. We then gently press the Ellipse applicator against the skin, releasing a controlled pulse of light.
Since the Ellipse Laser can target a large number of hairs in one flash of light, the duration of each treatment is short. Hair removal on the upper lip takes approximately one minute, while removing hair from the back and legs may last 10-20 minutes for each session.
To allow the skin and follicles to rest, procedures are typically performed four to six weeks apart. After just three sessions, the average patient may see up to a 50 reduction in the amount of hair in the treatment area, with up to an 80 percent reduction after six to eight treatments. Some studies have shown that 77 percent of treated hair doesn’t grow back after a decade.
